Today, I’m going to tell you about red foxes.
The lower part of the legs of red foxes are black and the rest of the legs have reddish brown fur. Most of the rest of the fur on the fox is red but near the hind legs of the fox their fur is grey. The neck of the fox, and it’s underparts, are covered with light grey fur and the backs of their ears are black.
Their body is 55-90cm long and their tail is 30-45cm long, which means that they can be up to 135cm long. They have a long tail so you can tell it is not a dog and they have triangular ears.
They live in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia (introduced) and a few parts of Africa. They can live in farmland, woodland and the suburbs. They make their burrows next to bushes, sheds, hills and rocks.
They will eat many things like rodents, rabbits, young deer (sometimes muntjac) and human rubbish.
Red foxes are territorial and males usually fight each other. About 14 per cent of red foxes live in cities eating rubbish.
